Product Description:
Octomore 16.2 Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Super-Heavily Peated (101.4 PPM) • Aged ~5 Years • Finished in Oloroso, Bordeaux, Madeira & Moscatel Casks • 58.1 % ABV (116.2 Proof) • Un-chill-filtered, Natural Color
Tone: Cask Adventurer / Peat & Wine Alchemist
Octomore 16.2 is the “Cask Aced” expression in Bruichladdich’s 16th series a fearless experiment in marrying smoke with wine oak nuance. Using the same malted barley and peat level as 16.1 (101.4 PPM), 16.2 diverges at the cask level: the spirit is first aged in Oloroso and Bordeaux wine casks before finishing in Madeira and Portuguese Moscatel casks, creating a multi-layered interplay of peat, fruit, and wood.
Tasting Notes
-
Nose
A sultry blend of sweet smoke, dried fruit, and farm orchard think campfire embers meeting raisin, candied orange peel, toasted nuts, and soft vanilla undertones. -
Palate
Intense but balanced: peat smoke rides a backbone of port-style berry compote, stewed plums, oak spice, chocolate fudge, and subtle saline minerality. -
Finish
Lingering smoke and wine tannins carry the dram across a long fade sweet red fruit, oak char, and a final whisper of salty peat echo.
Serving Suggestions
- Neat Let it breathe; peat and wine notes will unravel over time.
- Splash of Water Opens up the wine cask influence: more berry, more floral depth.
-

Why It Matters
16.2 is Octomore’s bold statement: what happens when heavy peat meets serious wine casks. It’s not a modification it’s a purposeful divergence. This is the bottle for the explorer who wants both smoke and complexity in a single dram.
